Abstract— An overview of Satellite based Navigation in Iceland is given, beginning with a short history of radio navigation. GNSS usage by the maritime sector is treated
including a survey of EGNOS usage by the Icelandic fleet. Future maritime needs are reviewed. A similar treatment is given for the aviation sector in Iceland, outlining the challenges at hand in utilizing SBAS. Due to the country’s northerly latitude there are challenges that require specialized solutions that are addressed in the paper.
