Five of the twenty-five routes in Iceland’s rural public bus service, operated by the IRCA, are set to be adjusted in the latter half of 2026. Four routes will be adjusted in the fall whilst one change pertains to a dedicated summer route. No adjustments are slated to be made on the remaining twenty routes. These adjustments are undertaken to keep operation costs for the rural public bus service within the outlined budget.

When considering changes, attention was paid to use and passenger numbers on individual routes. These changes are focused primarily on routes where effective use remains low. Route frequency will be reduced on three routes with limits placed on trips outside of high volume hours in order to reduce negative effects on passenger travel as much as possible.
Excepting the latter, all changes will take effect in the fall.
