Traffic on the main roads of the capital area increased considerably between March 2024 and 2025, if we can identify the three key measurement profiles of the Icelandic Road and Coastal Administration in the capital area, or by 4.2%.
Traffic increased in all three measurement profiles, most in the measurement profile on Hafnarfjörður Road or 5.4% but least in the measurement profile above Ártúnsbrekka or 2.6%.
This increase is not in line with what happened on the Ring Road at the same time, where traffic decreased.
Weekday traffic
The most traffic was on Thursdays and Fridays in the past month, but the least on Sundays.
Relatively, traffic increased the most on Fridays, or by 10.8%, while traffic increased the least on Mondays, or by 0.2%.
Traffic since the beginning of the year
Now that three months have passed, cumulative traffic has increased by 3.7% compared to the same period last year.
Note: all traffic figures are rough estimates, which could therefore change when the final review is carried out at the beginning of next year.
