Changes are being made to the flow of traffic around Breiðholtsbraut — between Jaðarsel and Vatnsendahvarf — this Friday, when a new bridge over Breiðholtsbraut will be put into use.
This same stretch of Breiðholtsbraut will be closed between 23:00 Thursday evening, July 9th, and 6:00 Friday morning, July 10th, as preparations are made towards moving traffic flow in the area. The new bridge over Breiðholtsbraut will be made open to traffic thereafter, whilst the traffic lights at the new intersection of Arnarnesvegur and Breiðholtsbraut will be put into use. Furthermore, traffic will be let on to Arnarnesvegur between Breiðholtsbraut and Vatnsendavegur, with a new section of Vatnsendavegur between Arnarnesvegur and Vatnsendahvarf to also be made open to traffic.

An overview of the changes: The green section denotes the new route from Vatnsendahvarf to Breiðholtsbraut, the red sections denote closures, and the orange dotted line shows detours around the area.
Alongside these changes, the intersection of Vatnsendahvarf and Breiðholtsbraut will be closed, traffic lights removed, and municipal planning altered. The intersection is slated to be reopened in an updated state in late fall. Drivers are now instructed to drive to and from Vatnsendahvarf through Vatnsendavegur, a new roundabout by Arnarnesvegur, and the road’s new aforementioned intersection with Breiðholtsbraut.
These changes are made in relation to the completion of a large section of the Arnarnesvegur extension between Rjúpnavegur and Breiðholtsbraut.
Drivers are asked to be careful, follow new signage and adhere to instructions on-site whilst these changes roll into effect.

Car traffic will be moved on to the new bridge over Breiðholtsbraut.
