Look­ing Ahead – A Conf­erence on Proj­ect Mana­gement for Major Infrastruct­ure and Main­tenance

At the conference, the focus will be on one of the greatest challenges facing infrastructure development in Iceland: how the Icelandic Road and Coastal Administration addresses infrastructure backlog, planning, governance, and the prioritisation of construction and maintenance in an efficient and sustainable way. The programme will explore project management practices and how the organisation is working systematically to strengthen them, with the aim of improving delivery and ensuring that plans and schedules are met as effectively as possible.

Icelandic and international experts will present their perspectives, with particular emphasis on the development of processes, the use of technology, and modern approaches to project management. Among the speakers is Michael Ebbesen, Executive Director of Construction at the Danish Road Directorate, who will share how Denmark successfully tackled a substantial accumulated infrastructure backlog through structured and effective project management.

The conference aims to provide a platform for professional dialogue, shared understanding, and better decision-making in public infrastructure projects.

The event is open to all those interested in the development and management of transport infrastructure. It will take place in the Háteigur Hall on the 7th floor of the Grand Hotel Reykjavík on 15 April 2026.
